Susan’s previous surgery revealed the infection was worse then they thought. It goes up her entire spine. The scans of her back indicated that the bones may have fused together in the last several months-- which is good news. Susan is in surgery right at this moment. The doctors are hoping to be able to remove both rods if the bones actually have fused. Unfortunately though, some curvature of the spine will return. One good note would be that Susan felt relief from all her pain after the doctors opened her up. She is on an antibiotic IV to continue to fight the infection.
